Always worth a little dilly-dallying.  ;o)

(Still catching up.  At this point, just always assume photos posted here are months old, unless otherwise advised.  ...At least until next spring!)

Another Day, Another Daylily Post

At the risk of repeating myself one time too many, here's another bunch of daylily photos from earlier in the summer.  (This batch all came from a huge folder I downloaded near the end of May, so they were taken sometime before that.)

Meanwhile, in the present day... ;o)

I have really and truly neglected large swathes of flowerbeds, most of the summer.  It got too miserable for me, I let it go, and the torpedo grass took over.  I did try spraying some RoundUp (because I've finally learned that trying to remove torpedo manually is a fool's game), but I didn't stay on top of it.  The weedy grass is pretty bad in spots... (Embarrassingly so!)

Ugh, I hate torpedo grass!  It ranks high on my list of things I'd doom to extinction, if I had that power.  (We should probably be glad I don't have that power, to be honest, though I'd love to say a permanent goodbye to a number of bugs and weeds!)

All I can do now is vow to do as much as I can once the weather cools down a bit more (which should happen gradually sometime in the next month or so)-- and make my best effort to do better next summer.  I know I hate the heat and humidity of high summer, so I really must get a handle on weeds early in the season, to keep myself from losing all motivation and just giving up until it cools down again (like I have this year).

If I find that I simply can't keep up with the demands of the garden as it is, I might have to downsize some flowerbeds and let some spots revert to grass.  I'm open to the possibility.  I'd rather do a smaller area well than have a larger area that's overrun by weeds.

To end on a positive note, at least the end of the worst of summer is within sight.  I'm beginning to allow myself to dream of cooler weather.  It's already (nearly) always autumn in my mind, anyway.  Some people like to say they have spirit animals; I have a spirit season.  Deep in my heart, it's always crisp and cool October!
